DOZENS OF CAMPS WERE CRYING OUT AND WATAN UK WAS RESPONDING

The suffering of families in the camps of northern Syria is getting worse. Because of the deteriorating health situation, a major project was launched based on increasing the level of hygiene in camps, with the aim of alleviating the burdens of the displaced in the camps of Afamia, Al Baraka, Saed, Shuhada Al-Janoub, Al Eis, Al Burj, Al Yamamah, Al Saleem, Jabal Al Hoss, Ajyal, Al-Abyad Qadeem, Al-Abyad Jadeed, Najma, Wadi Al-Ain, Tajamou Sahara, Al-Musa, Sher Maghar, Al-Maqlaa, Al-Saqia, Al-Youssef, and Nahnu Maan in the areas of Al-Dana, Kafr Lusin, Babsqa, Sarmada, Batbo, Hazano, Kafr Daryan Termanin,  Burj Nimra and these are the following planned services:

  • Supplying sterilised water through tanks.
  • Solid waste removal.
  • Distribution of personal hygiene booster baskets.
  • Periodic health awareness campaigns.
  • Distribution of garbage containers.
  • Building blocks of regular bathrooms and for people with special needs.
  • Hiring workers to clean the bathroom blocks on a daily basis.
  • Paving roads
  • Implementation of sewage lines from the septic tanks to convert into irrigation water.

The project launched at the beginning of this year and continues to provide the following daily services: supply water, cleaning septic tanks, removal of solid waste, organising awareness campaigns. Within the camp ‘Nahnu Ma’na’ additional services were also provided including paving roads, building and maintaining blocks, providing garbage containers and cleaning baskets as well as distributing water tanks.

By the end of November, the number of families which benefitted was 8366 (48,142 individuals). These services will continue to be provided till the end of 2021.

These services are expected to:

–        Improve general hygiene within the camps, since swamps of sewage which contribute to the spread of disease have stopped forming

–        Benefit nearby agricultural land as water coming out of septic tanks is turned into irrigation water for irrigation.

–        Support families with limited income, widows, and people with special needs.

–        Contribute to improving the camps’ infrastructure through establishing a sewage network, and maintenance, restoration, and construction of bathroom blocks and improving roads by paving them.
