DESPITE THE DETERIORATION OF THE HEALTH SITUATION… SPECIALIZATION MEETS THEIR NEEDS

The Salqin region suffers from weak specialized health care. Which has a huge impact with the difficult cases in northern Syria because of the war, and high demand for orthopaedic surgery. To cater to this need, Al-Amal hospital which specializes in orthopaedic surgery was opened.

The hospital is located between the two cities of Salqin and Harem and is considered one of the most important medical institutions affiliated and opened by  WATAN UK, in cooperation with the Syria Cross-border Humanitarian Fund (SCHF) organization.

The hospital consists of two main sections:

The surgery department: Which can provide minor and major surgeries, fracture surgeries, upper & lower extremities, knee & hip joint replacement, in addition to knee & ankle arthroscopy.

The clinical departments, which includes:

  • 24-hour ambulance services
  • Daily Orthopaedic clinic (except Fridays)
  • 24-hour in-patient centre.
  • Administrative pharmacy throughout the week, except for Friday.
  • 24/7 medical analysis laboratory.
  • Radiology department.

It is worth mentioning, that a circular from the Idlib Health Directorate meant there had to be restrictions to hospital services, due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Salqin area. Cold operations were stopped and a reduction of medical consultations to 30 consultations per day, however ambulance operations were maintained.

The most important work done in October included 630 major operations, 257 minor operations and 8,420 medical consultations, including: “Clinic and Bandage”.
