Watan’s mobile veterinary teams in partnership with the World Food & Agriculture Organisa-tion (FAO) completed a vaccination campaign for 141,853 sheep and goats against the plague: Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) in the following areas in the countryside of Northern Aleppo: Al-Bab, Qabasin, Bazzah.

This is because PPR is one of the most infectious, deadly disease in sheep and goats. PPR infects 100% of sheep and goats and kills approximately 80-90% of unvaccinated animals. But the sheep and goats, in Syria, have never been vaccinated against this particular disease.

Give Where the Need is Greatest

This intervention aims to improve the diet and livelihood of vulnerable families in Northwest Syria through the protection of these animals from PPR. The number of beneficiaries from the covered area are an estimated 4171 families.

The project also conducted a health awareness campaign to sheep breeders to combat PPR. Veterinary training was carried out for 17 veterinarians North of Aleppo.
