BETWEEN THE LACK OF SHELTER AND THE STRESS OF DISPLACEMENT, WATAN UK RESPONDS TO THOSE SUFFERING

Shelter is considered one of the most important means during displacement, particularly with the deteriorating health situation as the pandemic spreads. To alleviate their suffering WATAN UK, in cooperation with the UNHCR, has been distributing shelter packs and tents, as well as installing and inspecting them, in the governorates of Aleppo and Idlib. The project aims to distribute basic shelter materials for displaced families suffering from harsh conditions, including 32,500 baskets, 19500 tents, and gravel for the foundations of 16,000 tents.

After the activities carried out last September, 25,000 emergency baskets were distributed, in addition to installing 14,708 shelter tents, and the disposing of 6000 of them. The initial objectives of the project were met, helping a total of 45,225 families, a total of 226,703 individuals.

In the future the project is expected to:

  • Completing the distribution and installation of more tents.
  • Obtaining additional shipments of baskets of non-food items.
  • Carrying out research studies on how to improve the sites for the displaced.

WATAN UK is considered one of the most prominent organisations for emergency intervention operations inside Syria and is known for the important work it does in response to the recent mass displacement, which has earned it a great reputation amongst the others.
